This group exhibition portrays the tradition of visual storytelling through women’s voices. The artworks address our aesthetic, political, or philosophical perspectives. Storytelling is central to human existence, common to every known culture and women are usually the record-keepers and the storytellers of the family. These visual and spoken stories are activist/political, a contemporary interpretation of an ancient myth, and based on personal or family stories. This is art that provokes and inspires.

My installation was chosen to be shown at KOEHNLINE MUSEUM OF ART in Illinois (Oct.3-25).
The exhibition “BODIES BY DESIGN” explores how women’s bodies may be modified. Gendered embodiment has always been plastic: we adorn ourselves with piercings and tattoos; bind, confine, and refine our contours; and learn to move with or against societal expectations. Today, consumer culture puts unprecedented pressure on people to conform, while the abundance of subcultures allows for more outrageous inventions and expressions.
The exhibition will show a selection of works by an eclectic array of women artists who engage with this issue, asking: How do we survive and thrive in these extraordinary times? SOHO20 Chelsea in New York is hosting an exhibition to celebrate women leaders and to provoke discussion and action about what more can be done to give young people inspirational role models, to provide fair opportunity to women regardless of race and class, and to cultivate a human race that values good ideas and strong ethics based on their quality and not gender. “Women are rising to great political power in societies around the world and we are just beginning to see a shift occur as more women step into positions of global leadership. This is just the beginning.”

The exhibition runs July 18 – August 10, 2013.
