I was recently invited by the Honorary Consulate of Ecuador to curate a solo exhibition for the opening of his post in Busan. The successful ceremony took place Nov.27th in Novotel Hotel with around 130 guests and live music including an Ecuadorian group and it lasted for 10 days. I want to express how deeply honored and grateful I feel to the Embassy of Ecuador in Seoul, the Honorary Consulate of Ecuador in Busan, Novotel Ambassador Hotel in Busan and to Gana Gallery for their support.

I came up with the theme “When leaving becomes arriving” and gathered paper works including large paintings-collage, monotypes and an installation from the last years. Curating this retrospective made me reflect about what it involves leaving your home country and those you love to embark on a pilgrimage. One is subject to the vagaries of wind and weather along the way, the nature of the destination changes, step by step, and not always we know where the end of the road is. It takes inner resilience to endure the loneliness and the unforeseen but also a sense of risk and adventure. After all, there is a sense of freedom when we touch the deep foundation of aloneness. Maybe there is a need for following a certain star not seen by anyone else, an internal migration running parallel to the outside road, keeping us changing while trying to stay true. Maybe there is the need to create a more beautiful mind.

UNO ESTA SUJETO A LOS CAMBIOS DEL VIENTO Y EL TIEMPO, NUESTRA DESTINACION CAMBIA, PASO A PASO, Y NO SIEMPRE SABEMOS CUAL ES EL LUGAR FINAL. SE NECESITA FORTALEZA INTERIOR PARA SOBRELLEVAR LO INESPERADO Y LA SOLEDAD, PERO A SU VEZ RIESGO Y AVENTURA. DESPUES DE TODO, SE LLEGA A CIERTA LIBERTAD CUANDO UNO TOCA LO MAS PROFUNDO DE LA SOLEDAD BUSCADA. ES COMO UNA MIGRACION INTERNA QUE NOS HACE CAMBIAR CONSTANTEMENTE. QUIZAS HAY UNA NECESIDAD DE SEGUIR UNA ESTRELLA QUE ES INVISIBLE PARA TODOS LOS DEMAS. QUIZAS EXISTE LA NECESIDAD DE CREAR UNA MENTE MAS HERMOSA.
